The Suffolk SS100 Jaguar
Jaguar 4.2 Litre

Origins

The 1936 Jaguar SS90 and 1938 SS100 are rightly regarded as the starting point for a sixty year dynasty of superb sports cars. The Jaguar SS100 3.5 litre, launched in 1938 enjoyed only a brief manufacturing period before the Second World War halted production. The style, good taste, rakish lines and excellent performance of the SS100 ensured an important place not only in Jaguar history but in the hearts and minds of classic car enthusiasts all over the world.

In more recent times Terry Rowing of TRAC Engineering built up a business restoring the beauty of many of the original cars for owners all over the world. In 1991 he created the first of a small number of replica Jaguar SS100's. He demonstrated how modern Jaguar XJ6 mechanicals could be used and built into a new chassis and then clothed in bodywork of exactly the same dimensions and visual appearance as the original 1938 SS100. These finished cars combine the best of thirties style, open air motoring with all the advantages of modern Jaguar engine, gearbox, axles, suspension, steering and brakes. In truth a Jaguar reborn.

Roger Williams of Suffolk Sportscars purchased the manufacturing rights to this fine car in 1995 and is proud to continue production for discerning owners who appreciate the outstanding qualities of the finished cars.

The Suffolk Jaguar SS100

Our SS100 is designed to appeal to fastidious owners who are seeking a car that will be admired in any classic environment and deliver real driver satisfaction on the road. Invariably mistaken for 'the real thing', the car has exactly the same visual appearance as the original and many body parts, including the solid brass chromed radiator surround, fully louvred alloy bonnet and folding windscreen are identical and interchangeable with the 1938 cars.

We are proud that the Suffolk SS100 is accepted by the Jaguar Drivers Club as a JDC approved Historic Replica. The cars are welcome at classic car shows throughout Europe and are frequent prize winners. In addition to the cars already sold in Great Britain, cars have been exported to Europe, South Africa, Australia and North America. From 1998 the car is also available in Left Hand Drive form and can be fitted with fuel injection and catalytic converter.

On The Road

This car was designed to be driven! The enthusiastic driver will find the car handles superbly on the road. Top test drivers Jim Patten and Paul Skilleter, writing for Jaguar magazines, both testify to the high qualities of the car. The welded box steel section chassis is all new and combines great strength and balance to ensure comfortable long distance touring. The legendary Jaguar independent suspension and the smooth power from the XK series 6 cylinder engine enhance the enjoyment of any journey. Servo assisted disc brakes and Jaguar 4 or 5 speed gearbox complete the pleasure of owning and driving this fine car.

In The Cockpit

Every effort is made to ensure that the finished quality of the Suffolk SS 100 is at least equal to the original. Many detail improvements have been included. The Jaguar instruments are recreated with the correct period silver faces. The four spoke steering wheel is especially made for the car and the seat frames are exactly as the original. The fold flat windscreen and aero screens are also to pattern. Each interior is trimmed with high quality Connoly hides and Wilton carpet. The door linings incorporate map pockets and there is a good sized locker behind the seats. Recent interior improvements to aid driver comfort include a reduced profile to the transmission tunnel and a larger footwell. The hood is made of black double duck and can be quickly erected. A Stainless Steel luggage rack is also available.
